Is there a simple formula?

So first an update.. I'm aggressively looking to upgrade my personal tech belongings, starting with upgrading this...

Yup, thats right... to put it mathematically, the new capacity will be the square of my current capacity. 32² MB = 1024 MB... and it'll include an mp3 player, voice recorder, FM, the works.

What ever happened to those days of humble upgrading by a multiplication factor of 2? Are we even aware of all the technology that exists around the world? Its obvious that a persons age is inversely proportional to his technology awareness, but will human culture ever program itself to balance this equation? Or will we still be technologically guided by our younger generation in our twilight years? Is there a simple formula?

Signing off to ebay and gearing up to strike another thing off my tech wishlist...

  • iPod - 158g
    iPod mini - 102g

Other mp3 players (or iPod shuffle) - 22g

The lighter the merrier. And double as a USB flash drive.

See it's all about needs and wants. :)

  • Guys, those were days when you had a phone, a palmtop, an MP3 player, and maybe a USB flash drive.

Then the palmtop nose dived, because people got smarter and realized that they don't want to carry 2 devices and opted for smartphones a.k.a. Sony Ericsson P800/P900, Blackberry, etc.

I think the same is going to happen with the rest of the devices. Why on earth would you want to carry a phone, and an MP3 player and/or a USB flash stick??

Nokia has already taken the lead with a so to speak 'ipod killer' in the form of the N Series.

As for me, I've bought myself a Qtek S100 with a 1GB SD card. That's a PocketPC phone with enough memory to shoo away boredom for quiiiiiite a few hours. If I need any more songs than what would fit in 1 GB, I'd consider myself jobless and definitely not deserving of buying anything more than a portable radio!
